April 14-20

Monday (6km)
Really easy day today. Legs were feeling dull, so I did a short one to shake them out. This was a run to Paul Roberts' house to discuss the Shore-to-Shore relay, and back.

Tuesday (off)
Felt pretty congested today. I decided to take the day off to try to get healthy.

Wednesday (workout - 15km total)
Still felt congested today, and to make matters worse, my left hip felt incredibly sore. The workout was a tempo, hills, then some kilometres at a quality effort. My tempo was rough - I stopped after 3k on Steve's suggestion because my second k was much slower than my first. I picked it up for the third, but it was still slow. My breathing definitely was affected. On the hills, I was a little conservative so that I could get through all ten. They were short, but it still took a lot out of me. I stuck with the high school guys on these hills. Finished with 2x1k. I went 3:16/3:21. Rolled my ankle pretty thoroughly in the last hundred metres of the first k, otherwise it would have been 2-3 seconds faster. The second k did not feel a whole lot slower, but I think my congestion prevented me from having a really good one here. Overall, it was not a good workout, but I feel as though I got some benefit from doing it. Coming off of vacation and feeling sick, it would have been bad for my fitness to take a break. I'm glad I did most of it.

Thursday (10km)
My legs felt dull and lifeless today. 45 minutes was all I felt like doing - this was slow. If I was with Chris, we'd try to tough it out for an hour, but I did not feel up for it today. Was never very far from the apartment. Beautiful day, though.

Friday (off)
Sooo... I am exhibiting flu-like symptoms. I decided to take the day off. Fever, sore eyes, tired body, unhappy stomach. I vomited in the middle of the afternoon, which is pretty frickin' unusual. I just had a liquid dinner. I hope I can get better soon.
Lesson to learn: get the flu shot.

April 7-13

Monday (off)
Went snorkeling and wore out my legs. I did not run today.

Tuesday (21km total)
AM - 61 minutes on my own. I traveled east on the main highway towards Cabo San Jose. It was a pretty dull run, but a good temperature and my legs felt fresh.
PM - 36 minutes with Chris. We went into town. My legs started to feel tired by the end. I went dancing later that night, and absolutely pooched myself.

Wednesday (off)
Really tired today. I did not run.

Thursday (14km)
A good hour-long run on my own into town in the morning. Chris tried calling me while I was already a half-hour into the run. We should have tried to coordinate our run the night before.

Friday (off)
Slept in and could not be bothered to run in the afternoon.

Saturday (off)
A travel day. I would have done a short run if I got back to London, but we stopped in Waterloo for the night.

Sunday (5km)
20 minutes on my own. Wow, my legs felt tired. My right quad is sore from heavy dancing on Thursday still.

Total - 40km. My lowest-mileage week in a while. Now I am back to civilization, though, and can get back to a good routine. My next race is the California Run on May 4.
