Monday (6km)
Really easy day today. Legs were feeling dull, so I did a short one to shake them out. This was a run to Paul Roberts' house to discuss the Shore-to-Shore relay, and back.
Tuesday (off)
Felt pretty congested today. I decided to take the day off to try to get healthy.
Wednesday (workout - 15km total)
Still felt congested today, and to make matters worse, my left hip felt incredibly sore. The workout was a tempo, hills, then some kilometres at a quality effort. My tempo was rough - I stopped after 3k on Steve's suggestion because my second k was much slower than my first. I picked it up for the third, but it was still slow. My breathing definitely was affected. On the hills, I was a little conservative so that I could get through all ten. They were short, but it still took a lot out of me. I stuck with the high school guys on these hills. Finished with 2x1k. I went 3:16/3:21. Rolled my ankle pretty thoroughly in the last hundred metres of the first k, otherwise it would have been 2-3 seconds faster. The second k did not feel a whole lot slower, but I think my congestion prevented me from having a really good one here. Overall, it was not a good workout, but I feel as though I got some benefit from doing it. Coming off of vacation and feeling sick, it would have been bad for my fitness to take a break. I'm glad I did most of it.
Thursday (10km)
My legs felt dull and lifeless today. 45 minutes was all I felt like doing - this was slow. If I was with Chris, we'd try to tough it out for an hour, but I did not feel up for it today. Was never very far from the apartment. Beautiful day, though.
Friday (off)
Sooo... I am exhibiting flu-like symptoms. I decided to take the day off. Fever, sore eyes, tired body, unhappy stomach. I vomited in the middle of the afternoon, which is pretty frickin' unusual. I just had a liquid dinner. I hope I can get better soon.
Lesson to learn: get the flu shot.
